WINDOW BECOMES GARDEN GATE
Client: Private
Role: Design and completion
Location: Los Angeles
Year: 2022

Garden entrance missing a gate.

Upcycling process: High pressure cleaning, sanding, and oiling.

Repurposed window as garden gate.
We found old windows dumped on a corner of a street. We salvaged them, removed the glass, high-pressure cleaned them, and sanded and oiled the wood. After this process, one window was turned into a garden gate embedded in a wooden frame. Through this innovation, building materials determined to end up in landfill could be repurposed and given another life cycle. This design process thus requires an inverted approach: It is the availability of materials and their unique specificities that determine the design process.
