REIMAGINING FISCHERZUNFT
Client: André Jaeger, Restaurant Fischerzunft, Schaffhausen
Collaboration: Samuel Seiler
Role: Co-author of feasibility study
Location: Schaffhausen
Year: 2011

Reimagining Fischerzunft addresses the question of how to transfer existing buildings into a contemporary, sustainable
structure. The feasibility study shows a possible development for the historically preserved area along the Rhine river. The small-scale building structure should also be recognizable in the future. For this reason, the new building adopts the majority of the cubature and structure of the existing buildings.
Inspired by the works of the artist Rachel Whiteread, the new building makes the traces of the past visible as an imprint
on the facade. The sculptural concrete building is thus characterized by a relief of the old existing buildings: Old and new are thus linked and show the area the way into the future.
Furthermore, the feasibility study explored the potential to reuse as many parts of the building as possible (e.g. beams, windows, doors, façade elements). The final approach proposes to use the existing façade as an imprint for the new building since the existing architectural elements have proven to be in poor condition for a reuse strategy.
